Phoenix Noir was founded by Juliet Trail, Wally Worsley and Michael Wingate in fall of 2007, in Charlottesville, Virginia. Exploring the themes of living in a complex, sometimes painful, always beautiful world and rocking out while doing it have been the guiding principles of the band. The imagery of the phoenix, reborn from the destructions we experience in life and returning stronger than ever, can be heard across the lyrics of the songs. The themes and visual style of film noir also inspire the band -- including the notions of anti-heroes, femme fatales, and a world where everything black and white is filled in with myriad shades of grey.
The original lineup of the band included Juliet on vox, Wally Worsley and James Daniel on guitars, Chris Konizer on bass (stepping in for Michael Wingate) and Paul Bredder on drums. This line-up is featured on the Phoenix Noir debut album, From the Ashes, released on April 29, 2015.
